MANCHESTER, Ill. – The nephew of a small-town Illinois mayor shot and killed five people, including two boys, before leading police on a chase that ended in an exchange of gunfire that left him dead, authorities said Wednesday.

Illinois State Police said they believe Rick O. Smith, 43, entered a Manchester home through the back door and shot the victims at close range with a shotgun, leaving two women, one man and the boys dead. Two people were found in a bedroom, two in a second bedroom and the man in the hallway. A sixth victim, a 6-year-old girl, was injured and taken to a Springfield hospital.

“The offender took the 6-year-old out of the residence and put her in the hands of a neighbor,” State Police Lt. Col. Todd Kilby said.

Officials have not revealed a motive for the killings. Police said the victims are related. Authorities believe Smith and the victims were acquainted, but they didn’t provide details of the relationships.

A bystander called police and told them that Smith fled the home in a white sedan. A car chase ensued, leading authorities to the nearby town of Winchester, where Smith and officers exchanged gunfire. Officers shot Smith, and he later died at a hospital.

Police said they found a rifle, shotgun and large hunting knife in Smith’s car.

Coroner officials said they plan autopsies on the victims Thursday morning in Bloomington and identities would be released at that time.

Scott County State’s Attorney Michael Hill said Smith, of rural Morgan County, had previous convictions for reckless homicide, drugs and bad checks.

Manchester Mayor Ronald Drake confirmed that Smith was his nephew, saying he hadn’t spoken to Smith in two years, but he believed his nephew was unemployed. Drake said the last time Smith contacted him was to borrow tools.

In Manchester, yellow police tape surrounded the small one-story brick home where the victims were found. Manchester is a village of about 300 residents located about 50 miles west of Springfield.

“It’s a close-knit community,” Drake said. “Everybody talks to everybody. … We enjoy that goes on (in) town. This is just a tragedy for (the) whole town.”

The last homicide in Scott County was 20 years ago, in 1993.

Manchester resident Julie Hardwick, 48, said she lives in the same county housing authority complex as the victims. Authorities told her she couldn’t return to her home yet because of the investigation, she said.

“The kids were really nice,” Hardwick said of the family. “You couldn’t ask for better kids.”

The Rev. Robin Lyons of Manchester United Methodist Church, one of two churches in the community said, “this shows tragedy can happen anywhere.”

Two area school superintendents said they received calls from county sheriffs before 6 a.m. informing them that five people had been shot to death at a house in Manchester and that a suspect was at large.

Superintendent David Roberts of the Winchester School District and Les Stevens of the North Greene Unit District No. 3 both said they immediately canceled classes when they were told of the shootings and that other school districts did the same.

Roberts said the wounded girl is a student at Winchester Grade School and her teacher was with her at the Springfield hospital.

The school will use its own counselor, nurse and other staff members to help students who need to talk, Roberts said. Other area districts have offered to help too.

Roberts said he also will call on area ministers to be available on campus. “I’ve found that to be helpful in the past,” he said.

Mother and Aunt of De’Marquise Elkins Arrested for Lying to Police in Baby Slaying Case

Police have arrested the mother and aunt of Brunswick, Georgia youth De’Marquise Elkins, 17, arrested after the March 21, 2013, shooting murder of 13-month-old infant Antonio Santiago. Antonio was in a stroller on a walk with his mother Sherry West when they were mugged and shot, Antonio in the face.

Police identified Elkins from a tip, which led them to another boy 14, who was allegedly hiding in the back seat of Elkins’ car during the shooting. Elkins’ mother and aunt were arrested on March 25 and charged with misdemeanor making false statements and were released on bail after making new statements to police regarding the murder.

West, who was shot in the leg during the attack, positively identified Elkins for police out of a lineup of 24 mugshots the day after the shooting. Elkins’ family and his attorney strenuously protested his innocence saying he was at breakfast with his Aunt during the slaying, and was later running errands with family. Elkins’ sister insisted that her brother was not capable of such a heinous act.

Just days into the investigation however, police arrested Elkins’ mother, Karimah Elkins, 36, and her sister, Katrina Elkins, 33, for making false statements. At this time, police are not saying exactly what part of the statements was false. The women were given to opportunity to add to their prior statements, allowing police to identify more witnesses. Investigators were led to a saltwater pond where they found a submerged gun, which may turn out to be the murder weapon. Police are still waiting for test results on the gun.

Police also arrested Dominique Lane, 15, in connection with the murder. His name was not immediately released because of his age. It is not clear if he has legal representation or if he is being charged as an adult. Of Elkins public defender Kevin Gough told reporters, “We believe very strongly in his innocence,” but admits that in a small town like Brunswick, an alibi defense will likely not persuade a jury.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — The mother of a baby shot dead in his stroller took one look at a teenage suspect’s jailhouse mugshot Saturday and said he was definitely the killer. Yet an aunt of the teen said he was eating breakfast with her when the slaying took place.

Despite the conflicting stories, police have charged 17-year-old De’Marquise Elkins with murder, along with a 14-year-old suspect whose name has been withheld because he’s a juvenile.

Brunswick police spokesman Todd Rhodes said even though Elkins’ aunt provided an alibi, authorities have good reason to bring the charges.

“That’s what she’s saying, but the evidence we’re looking at says something else,” Rhodes said, though he would not elaborate.

Also Saturday, police in this coastal port city released 911 recordings from neighbors who sobbed and pleaded for help right after 13-month-old Antonio Santiago was shot in the head a few blocks from his mother’s apartment.

Sherry West said she was pushing her baby in his stroller as she walked home from the post office Thursday morning. She said a teenager, with a younger boy behind him, approached and asked her for money. West said when she told him she had no money, the teen drew a gun and said: “Do you want me to kill your baby?”

The gunman opened fire and West was shot in the leg, while another bullet grazed her left ear, she said. She watched helplessly as the gunman shot her son in the face, she said.

Two teddy bears, a vase of flowers and a decorative cross had been left Saturday against a wooden fence near the shooting scene.

Katrina Freeman said Saturday the shooter can’t be her nephew, Elkins, because he showed up at her house Thursday at 8:15 a.m. – roughly an hour before the killing. She said she cooked eggs, grits and sausage for breakfast and that Elkins accompanied her and her children to run errands when they left at about 11:30 a.m.

“He was with us the whole time,” said Freeman, adding that she gave police the same account of her nephew’s whereabouts. “There is no doubt in my mind that he is innocent.”

The slain boy’s mother said she picked the gunman out of a photo lineup of 24 mugshots police brought to her Friday. When a reporter showed her the photo of Elkins taken when he was booked into the Glynn County jail Friday, she wept and nodded.

“He killed my baby, and he shot me, too,” she said.

At her apartment Saturday, West had filled several bags with her son’s clothes and diapers to donate to charity. She said she hopes prosecutors pursue the death penalty in the case.

“My baby will never be back again,” West said, sobbing. “He took an innocent life. I want his life, too.”

In 2008, West’s 18-year-old son was stabbed to death in an altercation in New Jersey. Prosecutors said the stabbing was self-defense and did not file charges.

In Georgia, police said they are still searching for the gun. No eyewitnesses have come forward.

In the 911 recordings, two callers said they heard gunshots and then saw West take her son out of his stroller, lay him on the ground and try to revive him using CPR.

“Yes, I heard the shots. Somebody shot this child,” said one sobbing caller, who told the operator there were three shots fired. “She’s got him on the ground. Please, we need everything we can get.”

The 911 operators asked the callers if the boy was breathing. Finally, a man in a grave voice, answers: “No, the baby’s not breathing.” He says the child was shot “right between the eyes.”

A woman can be heard screaming in the background just before police arrive. Sirens drowned out her cries.

Elkins’ relatives said Saturday they don’t know if he has an attorney. His older sister, Sabrina Elkins, said police arrested him as he came to her home Friday.

“The police came pointing a Taser at him, telling him to get on the ground,” she said. “He said, `What are you getting me for? Can you tell me what I did?'”

The suspect’s sister said he returned to Brunswick a couple of months ago after living in Atlanta for a while. While he wasn’t enrolled in high school, she said, he had been taking classes to earn his GED.

“He couldn’t have done that to a little baby,” Sabrina Elkins said. “My brother has a good heart.”

Water Water Water

As the physical affects all of us, so does the spiritual.  We are living in the prophesied times of apostasy now and the physical reflects the same spiritual situation.  As water in the Bible symbolizes Gods Word, we see a shortage of good clean water available to keep us alive as the pure Word of God provides life to those who will drink it.  Water is the one substance which man can not live without; yet it certainly typifies the state of man’s relationship with God.  Although the earth is three-fourths water (same as our bodies), most of the earth’s water is in polluted form; just as most of the Word of God reaches us in polluted form through the additives of man.  In addition to all the above-ground water which is shrinking at an alarming rate and becoming of not much use due to pollution, there is also an estimated two million cubic miles of water underground which is shrinking at the same alarming rate and has been subjected to the same pollution.

The earth (which symbolizes man in the Bible) cannot manufacture or deplete the water which it has available today because the same amount of water is present in and on and around the earth as it was in the days of Adam.  Likewise, man can neither manufacture or exhaust the Word of God (Water) which has always been in existence.

In this age of environmental awareness of the pollution of the water of the earth (man) and laws established for the preservation of the purity of our water, it is indeed strange that there is so little care how much the water of the Word of God is poisoned, corrupted, polluted, befouled, contaminated, and debased.  It is small wonder that many persons of Holy Spirit guidance refuse the contaminated brews concocted by many of the churches of this age presented in lieu of  the pure water (Word of God).

Study your Bible to determine the sins of Dan and Beersheba which were located in Samaria as well the sins of Jerusalem.  Compare them today with our churches and see if they are not one and the same.

Digger shared a link with me that contains a sequence of events from a video that focuses on the double amputee that supposedly had his legs blown off. I want to share those with you here and ask you, especially if you have any trauma medical background (in the Armed Forces or ER or whatever), what is wrong with these pictures? (pictures and narrative by Fist-Of-Freedom)

I’ve studied and graduated EMT-B certification with the state of Oregon. I’ve been on calls with heavy arterial bleeds, internal bleeding, fatalities, doa’s. I am speaking from direct personal experience with severe trauma.

Here is a telling photograph of the amputee actor. I encourage readers to view the photo side by side with my analysis.

If you loose both your legs from explosive trauma half your blood is gone in one minute via the femoral arteries, youre dead after two. Bleeding out is worse with blunt force trauma (like shrapnel) because flesh is torn rather than cut, exposing more arterial and vascular tissue. The human body holds 5 to 6 LITERS of blood. If that really happened you would see blood EVERYWHERE, the guy would be drenched in it. You would also see what’s called arterial spurtting from the injury. Most likely he would vomit after turning ghost white from shock, then turning delirious or passing out. As for the “tourniquet”…

Its not even tied off, its suspended via gravity, which would literally do nothing to an arterial sever. There’s no pressure applied. There’s no knott with a turn stick for leverage. You can clearly see a gap in the nonexistent wrap job on his left inner thigh (left anterior proximal for you experts) His hands have no blood on them. There’s no blood on the ground. The color in his hands and lips shows good circulation.

    This is an actor. This is staged. How did they pull it off though? I can show you…
